Self-awareness is one of the four constructs of the Nurturing Programme, which provide the building blocks for positive, constructive relationships and confident parenting. But what do we actually mean by self-awareness?
Self-awareness is to know ourselves well - what we do and don't like, what our needs are, how we feel. If we are sensitive towards ourselves, it's easier to look after our needs and then to have the physical and emotional energy to care for others.
Understanding the effects of what happened to us when we were children helps us to make choices in our relationships with our own children and with others.
This clip of a young father who attended the 10 week Nurturing Programme shows how he found ways to reflect, take note and make changes to his own behaviour for the good of his relationship with his partner and child.
